At any given moment you have the power to say, this is not how my story ends.

It matters who you work with. I believe the foundation of our work begins with building connection and trust.

Hi, my name is Sonia and I bring two decades of experience working in the mental health field. In our sessions, you can find comfort in sharing in a supportive and nonjudgemental environment, where we can explore life challenges that have created roadblocks for you. In the process, I will guide you in gaining personal insight and awareness, while challenging distorted beliefs and behaviors that no longer serve you. I specialize in psychotherapeutic services for people coping with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, sexual abuse, stress, self-esteem issues, sexual identity, and new life transitions.

Meet Sonia

Sonia has dark brown hair that is worn down hitting her shoulders. She is smiling, looking into the camera with brown eyes, wearing a sea green sweater, and hand under chin pose

Sonia is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing services to individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, physical or sexual abuse, relationship issues, and life transitions. She is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing) and has over two decades of experience working in the mental health field for English and Spanish speaking communities. Prior to going into private practice, her background included working with individuals and families of diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds, both in-home and in outpatient settings. For more information on EMDR, please click on this video.

Sonia’s therapy approach focuses on reconnecting you with your core values, empowering you to face life’s challenges with intention and purpose. Sonia believe’s that therapy is not about fixing what’s “wrong” with you, but focusing on helping you build the skills, insight and self-compassion needed to create long term change.

Sonia creates a safe space where you can pause, feel truly heard, and start to make sense of what you’re carrying. And to be capable of navigating and coping with life’s challenges. A place where you don’t have to have it all figured out—just the courage to show up.

Sonia earned her Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Antioch University of Santa Barbara, a program that advocates for social justice and draws on the strength of a diverse academic community. She worked for Pacific Pride Foundation, a non-profit organization providing services to the LGBTQIA community and youth. For 6 months, Sonia lived in England working in a transitional housing program for the underserved community. Upon returning to California, she dedicated 8 years as a therapist to children in the foster care system in Los Angeles County, where she moved on to become a program supervisor at a children’s outpatient clinic. Sonia has been in private practice since 2012 and continues to work with individuals, couples, families, and college students, as well as, therapists both licensed and those working toward their hours.
